Freedom Through Radical Self-Acceptance

I grew up in Jacksonville, FL with my two sisters in our childhood home nestled on the St. John’s River. I was always an adventurous and creative soul, I loved exploring with my sisters and camping with my family. I would lose myself for hours in imaginative play or art projects. I was also an incredibly sensitive child, who struggled to make friends, never quite fit in, was disorganized, and painfully forgetful. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 10, but it wasn’t a diagnosis I would truly accept until I was in college and wouldn’t understand it’s impact until I was a working professional. For the majority of my life I struggled intensely with feeling stupid, lazy, and constantly felt like nothing I did would ever be good enough. On top of ADHD I also experienced the trauma of growing up with substance abuse in my home, sexual assault as a teenager, and the divorce of my parents. To say times have been dark for me would be an understatement.

Throughout my 20’s I struggled with depression, anxiety, poor relationship patterns, numerous difficulties with school and work. I was a great therapist, who worked primarily with children, but I was massively avoiding my own pain and difficulties. It wasn’t until I started to explore and process my early life experiences with trauma and ADHD that I was able to break free from the suffering that defined most of my life. I stopped allowing myself to feel shame about how I existed in the world. I began to challenge the narratives that had been handed to me throughout my life. I set boundaries around how I wanted people in my life to treat me. Through this process I found understanding, love, and appreciation for myself and how I showed up in the world. I found freedom from my suffering in acceptance of myself and my past.

I consider myself a student of life, always learning and growing, individually and professionally. My personal journey so heavily impacts how I interact with clients and why I work with the clients that I do.

If you resonated with my story at all, I would so love to talk to you and help you in your journey.
